What a massive impressive place.
As we walk up the walkway I am overwhelmed with the size of the castle. We started in a small cave just off the pathway, I am not sure what is was used for as it would have been for protection. The watch tower was a curious site as there was no evident way to enter the tower, so we assumed they maybe had ropes they could pull in.
Entering the castle I could imagine what it would have been like in its prime. The outer rooms are still intact as they are made of stone. The only evidence of the inner floors is the holes in the wall. The wall that would have held huge oak beams to support the floor. The outer rooms are a accessed by a very slipper stone staircase that is very dark and narrow. I can't imagine having been a servant hauling firewood and food to The Lord and Lady's in their rooms.
The rooms are of all different sizes with small windows that let in very little light but would have protected from outside attack.
The staircase eventually leads to the Blarney Stone, there is a elderly man that is very fast and efficient getting you positioned to kiss the stone then up and on with you.
Going down the stairs. I imagined the fun the children of the castle must have had running up and down the stair case and darting in and out the rooms, I could almost hear the laughter and squeals
We noticed when taking pictures at the castle that just before we snapped the photo a purple haze was showing. It was gone when we took the photo. Caroline felt it was the purple energetic shield of protection for the castle.
